Hello and welcome to another edition of Newsline. Newsline will now be a one-page, fortnightly publication, to ensure the news gets to you in a timelier fashion.
One project that is gaining momentum this year is the Waimate High School AgHub. This initiative, run by the school and the Waimate Opportunities Trust, aims to prepare students for entry into the agricultural sector. Farming is the backbone of our local economy, and it is great to see the local high school and community come together to provide opportunities for our young people.
This project has been going for a few years and is continually growing. Keep an eye out for news and support their fundraising efforts when you can.
As far as Council projects go, a recent and exciting one has been our new public notification service ‘Notify Me’. Residents can now sign up to receive emergency alerts via text or email for key services like water and civil defence.
This will mean we can get important information out directly to the people who need it. There are different options for what information you can opt to receive, so you will not be spammed with information not relevant to you.
The link for Notify Me is waimatedc.govt.nz/notifyme
