Noise Control
People and activities are entitled to make noise at a reasonable level, but you have the right to have excessive noise reduced or stopped.
Noise control is carried out by Council's Environment Health contractors. Twenty to thirty noise complaints are made each year. Council has a statutory responsibility to manage noise issues in terms of the Resource Management Act, the Waimate District Plan and the Health Act.
We also have an agreement with the community to respond to noise complaints rapidly.
If your neighbours are being noisy, try talking to them first. Alternatively, you can call Council 24 hours a day on +64 3 689 0000 to make a noise complaint.
