Event Centre Complex Fire

UPDATE: 18 November

Following the fire at the Waimate Event Centre complex on 25 October, all areas are open except the gym and squash courts.

The fire began in the roof cavity above the gym toilets. We understand this was due to a fault with the HVAC system.

A structural engineer has inspected the building and whilst there is no significant structural damage, there are extensive repairs required to the building’s services.

An external consultant has been engaged to manage the restoration and a scope of works is currently being prepared. Once this is completed and priced, restoration can begin. It is anticipated that this project will flow well into the new year due to interruption with Christmas shutdown, and extent of the work required.

All enquiries about squash and the gym memberships should be directed to the respective organisations.

UPDATE: 29 October

Following the fire at the Waimate Event Centre last Friday, the main building, including the reception area, courts, meeting rooms, and pop-up library, is now open.

The squash courts and gym will remain closed until further notice. Our insurers are assessing the damage today, and contractors will begin necessary repairs as soon as possible.

We will provide further details once we know more.

25 October

Due to a fire, the Waimate Event Centre, Pop-Up Library and Gym will be closed until Tuesday 29 October.

We will provide an update on Tuesday 29 October once we have had the chance to assess what damage there has been.
