Ideas being sought for Waimate reserves

As Council seeks to develop a General Reserves Policy and prepare a specific Management Plan for Knottingley Park and Arboretum, Mayor Craig Rowley is encouraging the public to have their say.

The management plan will contain specific guidelines to protect social, cultural and recreational features of Knottingley Park, ensuring its preservation and ability to provide enjoyment to the community.

Mayor Rowley says Knottingley Park and Arboretum is a jewel in the district’s crown and is a popular destination for many people.

“Knottingley Park is used for a variety of activities and we want to make sure the management plan we develop recognises existing uses but also includes any future activities. At the heart of the plan will be a commitment to reflect, as best as possible, the wishes of our community.”

“This is the first stage asking for public comment and feedback. We want people to come forward and tell us what they would like to see in the plan and the overall reserves policy,” says Mayor Rowley.

“A simple survey has been designed that will take a short time to complete. I encourage everyone to have their say.”

Following the consultation (which ends on Tuesday 5 March 2019) the feedback will be consolidated and fed into the draft policy and draft management plan. They will then be issued for further public feedback before the final policy and plan are formally adopted.

Once the plan has been adopted for Knottingley Park and Arboretum, further reserve management plans will be developed.
