'Give Sport a Go' Gets Underway in Waimate
Waimate District Council has a new sport initiative for school aged children with sessions and coaching programmes due to get underway next month.
Give Sport a Go, a Sport Canterbury initiative, is supported by the Kiwisport Regional Partnership Fund which aims to encourage more young people into sport by trying out new sporting activities.
This is the first time Council has applied for this funding, receiving $4,500 to enable the Waimate Event Centre to run the programme.
Waimate District Council’s Community and Strategy Group Manager Carolyn Johns says the programme will incorporate a wide variety of sporting activities including climbing, soccer, badminton, skating, snag golf, yoga, and many more on offer.
“We’re excited about providing the programme because it’s free of charge and Give Sport a Go offers a taste of the different clubs available across the district.”
The four-week programme will begin next month at the Waimate Event Centre from 11 November to 4 December from 3.30pm to 4.30pm for the junior sessions, with secondary school sessions to follow early next year.
For programme details, check the Waimate District Council website and Facebook page or contact the Waimate Event Centre.
