New Eco-friendly Heat Pumps for Norman Kirk Memorial Swimming Pool
Waimate District Council has installed three new heat pumps at Norman Kirk Memorial Swimming Pool to improve the energy efficiency and temperature consistency at the public swimming pool.
The new electric heat pumps were installed in September ahead of the new season and feature an energy efficient system with upgraded temperature control that provides a consistent temperature of 29 degrees for the pool.
Prior to the installation of the new pumps, the pool was heated by a labour intensive coal-fired boiler unit that struggled to achieve temperature consistency and reliability.
The new heat pump system has greatly improved the energy and cost efficiency of heating the pool, reducing maintenance and labour costs as well as eliminating fossil fuel use.
Once the pool has been heated to a set temperature, only one pump is required to maintain ideal temperature control, improving time and energy resources to maintain the pool system.
Waimate District Council Asset Group Manager Dan Mitchell says the new pumps are a significant upgrade for the swimming pool that will prove to be a durable asset for Council.
“The new system has provided the swimming pool with a robust and environmentally sound heating solution that will benefit the community for many years to come.”
The Norman Kirk Memorial Swimming Pool is open for the season until March.
