Pedestrian Crossing Removed - Cnr Queen Street/High Street
PEDESTRIAN CROSSING REMOVED
CNR HIGH STREET/QUEEN STREET
Following consultation with Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency and the analysis of pedestrian counts in the area, the crossing on the Cnr High Street/Queen Street (by the Waimate Police Station) has been deemed unsafe. Therefore, it has now been determined that in order to keep motorists and pedestrians safe, the crossing will be removed and pedestrians will be in full control of when to cross safely.
While Council believe this is the best option moving forward, this matter is open for discussion and we would like to hear from you. Do you agree with this outcome, or do you have an alternative idea to consider?
A further review of all crossing facilities in the Waimate CBD will also be carried out in the coming months.
In the meantime, thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
