Code Compliance Certificate

A Code Compliance Certificate is the final step in the building process and will be issued following the final inspection being completed and all work meets the building consent.

It is verification from Council as the official Building Consent Authority that all work undertaken complies with the building consent and the NZ Building Code.

Is the Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) issued automatically?

No - you must apply for it, however, it is common for the Building Control Officer to bring an application to the final inspection.

How long will it take to issue?

Council has twenty (20) working days from when we receive the application to decide if the CCC will be issued. There are times when a CCC will be refused.

If the Code Complaince Certificate has not been applied for the BCA will send applicants a letter advising that the two year period is about to come up and advising them that they can apply for an extension.

For example, if an application for a Code Compliance Certificate is not made within two (2) years since the building consent was issued, Council will decide whether to refuse the Code Compliance Certificate.

If the owner does not apply for a CCC two years after Council has granted the consent, then we are required under law to either issue or refuse it.

Once issued, it is an important document, and should be retained for future reference.
