Short of space for your caravan or boat at home? We’ve had many people ask us for storage at the lakes, but we couldn’t offer it due to not having staff present during the off-season. That’s changed and Waitangi East Campground at Waimate Lakes now offers caravan and boat storage year-round.
We now have Lakes Supervisor Desmond (Mouse) Aitcheson living on-site all year. Caravans and boats can be stored directly in front of the campground office for just $1.50 per day (inclusive of GST), payable at the end of the storage time. Gates to the campground will be locked during the off-season except for when staff are working on the campgrounds. Caravan/boat owners will be required to sign an indemnity agreement stating Council holds no liability for damage and we strongly recommend insurance against fire and theft and use of a wheel or tow ball lock.
“We’re delighted to offer this storage option,” says Parks and Reserves Manager Steve Johnston. “We do need to point out though, that storage does not include any advantage over camping positions and all campers must follow the usual process when the season opens.”
